Chairman Ofosu Ampofo has admonished the Ghana Peace Council to be careful in the hasty manner some members go public to condemn one party against the other in what appears to be a showdown between the Electoral Commission, the NDC and a good number of civil society organisations.
“The peace council should be very careful in their utterances rushing out to come and condemn one party against the order”
Speaking on Ahotor fm’s morning show dubbed “The Thursday Class” Chairman Ampofo expressed lack of concern shown by members of the peace council about the reasons many people have raised challenging the EC’s decision to jettison the existing voters register for a new one… According to him the EC has so far failed to convince Ghanaians on the need to invest huge sums of money into compiling a new register.
He stressed, the Peace Council must remain neutral and focus on the substance in the ensuing argument and desist from hastening to condemn those rooting against the compilation.
Mr. Ampofo also indicated that, looking at the time frame, the NIA do not have the capacity to distribute cards to people they registered before the EC registration exercise commences , a situation which will forced many Ghanaians to be denied of their voting right in the upcoming elections as the EC seeks to solely on NIA card and passport.
He called on the moral society to eschew all partisan biases and preach wisdom to the EC to abandon the idea of compiling a new voters register before the electoral commission sets the country on a path of no return.
