Kwame Alovi, former President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has expressed concern over plans to reopen schools in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Measures that need to be put in place are creation of more classrooms, reducing the number of students in a class to about 20 or 25 and the dormitories, dining halls, bath rooms and toilets must also to be worked on.

Speaking on Ahotor 92.3 FM’s “Asem Yi Di Ka” Mr. Alovi said he was alarmed when he saw a letter circulating on social media concerning the reopening of schools.
The former NAGRAT President indicated that he was alarmed due to the fact that we are not in normal times and also considering the conditions in the school dormitories’ and classrooms.
He told the host Emmanuel Martey aka Alaska the Don, that in his view, some adequate measures have to be put in place.
In addition, he says some of the measures that need to be put in place are creation of more classrooms, reducing the number of students in a class to about 20 or 25 and the dormitories, dining halls, bath rooms and toilets must also to be worked on.
Mr. Alovi noted that, measures such as washing of hands frequently must be taken serious. In addition, the students need to be tested before and after school and disposable face masks and sanitizers should be distributed to the students.
He also questioned the readiness of Ghana Education Service (GES) to reopen schools and concluded that it will be better for the students to stay home rather than going to school to be infected with the corona virus.
