Public Relation Officer of the Ghana Water and Sewage Company, Stanley Martey, has warned against the excessive use of water in spite of it being free on the face-value,explaining that, it is the taxes the country receives, that would be used to settle the water bill, which could have been used for other developments.
He was responding to about 7 days of locked taps within the Tema community and its environs.
He questioned why people are making it look strange, since it’s not the first times tap water has been locked for a number of days
Speaking on Ahotor 92.3fm, Mr Martey was emphatic that, they work with machines and this is not the first instance they have had to lock the pipe so ‘why are we making it look like is something strange’.
‘We even announced to the general public that this is it so” store water until the event that the water is not flowing then you can resort to the storage. And this is not the first time is simple and let stop making the whole thing complicated’, he said.
Due to the covid-19 protocols, it’s obvious there will be increase in demand for water which has affected the machines. But as at now, the company has about 700 poly tanks mounted throughout the country in deprive areas where people can go and fetch water for free.
