Ghana should not panic, we are doing well- former Health Minister

Ghana’s former Health Minister, Dr Kwaku Afriyie says, Ghana should not panic as it is doing well in the fight against covid-19

Dr Afriyie in an interview with Ahotor 92.3 fm said, our public health system is very robust better than even America.

“Our Health system is very robust, every district has a Director of Health Service whose focus is on prevention, promotion, education, gathering of statics and nutrition, and this has been in the country for quite a long time and has helped us in the fight against measles, polio and other disease.

Adding that, ” America has no such structures even their insurance cover has limitations deductible about 40 million of the population have no insurance cover and they have huge undocumented emigrants.”

He called for more attention on severe illness and death rates, even though the number keeps increasing.

“Not all of them are being hospitalized, most of them are in isolation centers and are not ill however, have tested positive.

The former Minister explained that, some have pre- existing sickness like diabetes and asthma without their knowledge.

Data on Ghana’s rate of covid-19 infection shows the country’s case count has peaked, but Dr Ebenezer Badu Sarkodie said, ” we are not off the hook yet; but then if we continue the way we are doing now adhering to the various social distancing and adhering to the various individual preventive measures these will let us come down from where we are.”

We do not need sophisticated gadgets like ventilators in the fight against pandemic rather sociology and culture.

He further advised that we interpret the data, and not do politics with the virus and also educate the general public and not cause fear and panic.
