Private health insurance providers bares teeth at NHIA

President of the  Private Health Insurance Service Providers Association of Ghana,  Samuel Boakye is challenging the rationale behind the donation of GHC 250.000.00 by the National Health Insurance Authority to the National Covid-19 Fund, saying it is most insensitive and hypocritical of the Authority.

According to the President, the Authority owes many private health providers for their services to patients under the health insurance scheme between 9 months and over a year, affecting their and there wonders why the Authority will not find it prudent and prioritize the settlement of their indebtedness, but rather donate the said amount to the Covid-19 Fund.

He explained that, by the Act, every service provider is to be paid of its service within 90 days, but up till now, the Authority owes the service providers of various amounts and this has affected the continued provision of their services,  yet instead of settling the debt, the Authority is rather being insensitive to their plight.

He noted that, provision of health care has become so expensive and government supports no private iinstitution and therefore the delay in paying them for their services is unfortunate.

Mr Boakye disclosed that, most of the Private Health facilities are running on bank loans with huge interest rates, and therefore denying them of their rendered services is unacceptable, and is therefore calling on the Authority to pay the backlog of debts owed them.
