Ghana to face imminent food crises –Agriculturist

The country is predicted to face a national hunger if the administrators do not start putting in place mechanisms to prevent its occurrence.

Agriculturist, Kwabena Akuoko explained that, what the country is depending on is last year’s harvest, which has been carried over  to this year.

He said, the country  will not be able to plant more this year due to the invasion of covid-19 and the  inability to import

This looming crises is also affected by missing the planting season due to the lockdown, and if the planting season is missed, it affects the harvests negatively. So by the time the covid-19 is over, the season might have been passed.

Mr Akuoko is calling for immediate building of local capacities, and cut down on the reliance on importation.

He further explained that, importation would also be limited as the importing country might have also been  affected with the corona pandemic to export to other countries.

Adding that, it is unfortunate that, not much is seen in Ghana, as other countries are building the buffer stock.
