Removal of the 3 weeks lockdown is good- Economist

The government’s lifting of the partial lockdown has been applauded as a move n the right direction to save the country from a further crush in the economy.

Economist, Dr Joshua Bamfo says, the lilting of the lockdown was necessary to re-activate the economy and prevent the collapse of more companies, and also ensure some business activities, as has been the incident.

He explains that, the implementation of any restrictive measure at a point comes to an end, with its adverse economic implications on the economy.

He explained that, as the restriction persists, the more it grinds economic activities to a halt, which is not an option for any serious country.

He said, such restrictions affects the most vulnerable members of the society whose economic activities are hinged on their daily business transactions. So the continued imposition of any restriction deepens their woes as they form the majority of Ghana’s economy.

So government has to take decisions based on available information, and the purpose of the restrictions imposed, to ensure that, the economy is not further impacted on negatively.

So, after the government having done the contact tracing, having been able to identify the positive cases and isolated those affected, felt with the 1.5% in positive incident rate compared to the number of tests carried out, was enough information to relax the imposition on movement.
