PRESS RELEASE

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) wishes to commend the government for the steps it is taking to contain the spread of Covid-19 in Ghana and also to mitigate the effect of the pandemic in the country. MUSIGA would also like to assure government of our preparedness to support the efforts of the government in any possible areas.

In this area, the Union is also mobilizing support from its members in aid of the frontline workers who are at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Union is also appealing to members of the public to donate items and cash for in support of ageing, sick and vulnerable musicians during this period of the lockdown. The Union will appreciate if members of the public, religious institutions and corporate bodies will heed this call to provide food, medical supplies and cash for the ageing musicians.

The threat of Covid-19 is particularly strong among the age group that constitutes the majority of ageing musicians and it is in this regard that the Union finds it pertinent to make this appeal for support at this moment.

Musicians in particular have been hit hard by this lockdown of the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi areas where religious institutions and entertainment venues provide a form of livelihood to the musicians. This means engagements for musicians have been cancelled and this is affecting them.

It is in this regard that the Union is reaching out to the general public, philanthropists and corporate bodies to support the musicians.

Bessa Simons

Acting President
