Discipline your recalcitrant mates- Drivers told

The Commanding Officer of the Ashaiman branch of the Motor Traffic & Transport Department of the Police Service, Supt. Issac Forson  has warned against drivers who instead of ensuring discipline of the driver’s mate, rather submit to them.

This practice which is becoming normal on commercial trotros is unacceptable.

The Commander noted with regrets that, some mates could be so rude to passengers, yet the driver would not call them to order.

The driver, he said, is the commanding officer and should ensure that the mate discharges his service with respect.

The Commander gave the advice during the inauguration of Ashaiman branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Welfare Committee.

The Committee is made up of six branches out of eight, to ensure sanity on the roads within the Ashaiman enclave.

The Commander urged the mates to ensure proper hygiene at all times to give respect to their profession.

Chairman of the Committee,  Emmanuel Agbenyo lamented over the rate of driver indiscipline on the roads, which is a factor to road accidents.

He is of the conviction that, the newly formed Committee would be able to maintain sanity on the roads and protect life.

The Committee, he said, would support the MTTD to rid the transportation business of non- law abiding drivers.
