Chairman for Parliament’s Select Committee on Education, MP for Akim Oda, in the eastern region, Hon. William Quaitoo has debunked assertions that, the Getfund Fund component in the awards of scholarship to brilliant but needy students is not meant for only the less endowed students, and under privileges in the country alone, but instituted for all and sundry.
News broke over the weekend over the release of the Auditor General report about the beneficiaries of the Getfund scholarship scheme per the details o the secretariat of the scheme.
Reacting to the issue on Adekye Mu Nsem on Ahotor Fm (92.3) on Monday, Mr. Quaitoo said the purpose of Ghana Education Trust fund (Getfund) makes room for all manner of persons irrespective of their social and economic standings.
The MP argue that, every citizen has the privilege to enjoy package in the Getfund once he / she writes to the Secretariat .
Key among the list of notable dignitaries in the revelation includes : Education Minister , Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Procurement Minister , Hon. Sarah Adwoa Sarfo , including civil servants as having been beneficiaries on the purported list currently in circulation on social media, as well as print and electronic media outlets.
Social media patrons have expressed shock over the beneficiaries, and also taken a swipe at persons who according to them are well to do , but surprisingly have their names into the lists of beneficiaries.
The Akim Oda, lawmaker noted that, the matter has been blown out of proportion, instead of subjecting the outcome of the memo constructively.
He stressed and wondered why a section of the public would launch into the development amidst scathing attacks on the personalities of who have been captured by the contriving list within the public domain.
Mr. William Quaitoo, emphasized that, if what is on social media is anything to go by, then a painstaking audit will be conducted to ascertain the veracity as to the inclusion of high profile persons as Getfund beneficiaries. But he was quick to respond that there is absolutely nothing wrong with lists of government appointees.
