Ruling in Ofosu Ampofo’s case likened to Coronavirus

Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, NDC National Chairman

A mini drama unfolded earlier today in court as Nana Ato Dadzie (Lawyer) likened the ruling of a sitting judge to Coronavirus in the ongoing case between Chairman Ofosu Ampofo and the Republic.
An application was brought before the Court by the Counsel for the Accused Persons seeking a Stay of Execution pending a hearing on same matter at the Court of Appeals but the Judge, ruling on the case set aside a previous ruling by the Supreme Court on a similar matter which was cited as an authority by council to justify why their application should be granted but the judge argued that their request could not be granted on the grounds that Applications for Stay of Execution is not automatic in criminal cases as in civil cases, rather such considerations are determined based on the discretion the court (The Judge ).
His ruling drew surprise from the faces of many who were present at the court and Nana Ato Dadzie’s priceless reaction to what he described as “Novel Ruling” drew uncontrollable laughter and giggles from everyone including the sitting Judge.

“My Lord the novelty in your ruling can be likened to the Coronavirus” and his comment was re-echoed by Lawyer Toni Luther, counsel for the First Accused Person.
