Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has expressed optimism about the future of Ghana’s movie industry, saying he trusts President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to support the creative sector.
Edochie’s comments come during his ongoing visit to Ghana for the launch of his Legacy Project, which celebrates his decades of contribution to African cinema, culture and storytelling.
The legendary actor has also spoken about his concerns over the decline of Ghana’s film industry, calling for stronger investment from government and corporate organisations. He believes Ghanaian stories, history and culture can be turned into quality productions that create jobs while preserving the country’s heritage.
His remarks come at a time when the Ghanaian government has announced a GH¢20 million allocation in the 2026 Budget for a Film Development Fund, aimed at supporting areas including film production, distribution, exhibition and skills development.
With Edochie’s long-standing connection to African cinema, his comments have added to the growing conversation about collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria and the need to strengthen Africa’s creative industries.
For many in the entertainment space, the renewed attention on Ghana’s film industry signals an opportunity to tell more Ghanaian stories to audiences beyond the country’s borders.
Ghana is going global, and the creative industry is becoming an important part of that journey.
