UNESCO Representative to Headline Inaugural Language Diversity Conference in Accra

The inaugural Language Diversity Conference is set to take place in Accra from October 2 to 4, 2026, with UNESCO representative Moukala announced as a keynote speaker.

The conference will focus on the importance of protecting and promoting indigenous languages while exploring ways technology can support greater linguistic diversity and inclusion.

Moukala’s participation forms part of UNESCO’s broader efforts under the UN Decade of Indigenous Languages, which seeks to raise awareness about the importance of preserving indigenous languages and ensuring they remain relevant in an increasingly digital world.

The conference will also highlight UNESCO’s call for multilingual and inclusive digital spaces, encouraging greater representation of different languages and communities online.

With language, culture and technology expected to take centre stage, the Accra gathering is set to bring together stakeholders and advocates to discuss the future of indigenous languages in the digital age.
