President John Dramani Mahama has begun his engagements on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly with a meeting with Alex Soros, Chairman and Founder of the Open Society Foundations (OSF), in New York.
The meeting, held on Sunday, focused on opportunities for collaboration and support for regional integration efforts, particularly those being pursued by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Alex Soros, an investor and philanthropist who has previously engaged with President Mahama, expressed interest in exploring partnerships with Ghana and supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening ECOWAS integration.
The meeting also served as a precursor to a planned presidential roundtable engagement being coordinated by the Open Society Foundations. The roundtable is expected to bring together President Mahama and a select group of presidents and CEOs of leading global foundations.
Among the organisations expected to participate are the Gates Foundation, Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundations, Hewlett Foundation, Hilton Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Humanity United, Anglo American, Chandler Foundation and UBS Optimus Foundation, among others.
The engagements form part of President Mahama’s activities in New York on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly, where he is expected to hold a series of high-level meetings and discussions on issues of global and regional importance.
