ACCRA, Ghana, 15th September: President John Dramani Mahama says foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into Ghana have increased nearly fourfold, rising from $640 million in 2024 to $2.5 billion in 2025.
He attributed the significant increase to what he described as an enabling business environment created through prudent financial management.
President Mahama disclosed this while speaking at the official revealing of the $1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project in Accra.
“An enabling environment created by prudent financial management is leading to an exponential increase in foreign direct investment,” he said.
The President noted that the $2.5 billion figure did not include machinery, plants and equipment brought into the country as part of investments.
“It would be much higher if machinery, plants, and equipment were factored in,” he added.
President Mahama said the development demonstrated growing investor confidence in Ghana and reaffirmed government’s readiness to work with investors who make long-term commitments to the country.
“We will continue to strengthen the business environment and support investments that contribute meaningfully to our country’s development,” he stated.
His comments came as he commissioned the start of the $1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project, one of the major private-sector investments being undertaken in the airport enclave.
The development is expected to include approximately 582 premium apartments, a 600-room hotel, a 2,500-capacity conference facility, healthcare facilities, a modern shopping mall, landscaped gardens and other commercial and leisure amenities.
The President said government expected investors to reciprocate the support provided by the state by complying fully with Ghana’s laws, upholding high standards and creating genuine opportunities for Ghanaian businesses and workers.
He stressed that investments should deliver benefits beyond the construction phase by generating jobs, supporting local enterprises and creating sustainable economic opportunities.
President Mahama also linked the Sentuo project to government’s 24-hour economy and accelerated export development programme.
He said the combination of aviation, hospitality, conferencing, transport, retail, healthcare, food services and leisure activities could sustain productive economic activities during extended hours.
According to him, such developments could create additional opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship while strengthening Accra’s position as a competitive African business and tourism destination.
The President also commended Sentuo Group Executive Chairman, Mr Shu Ningquan, for his continued investment in Ghana.
He disclosed that Mr Shu had informed him of plans to establish a fertiliser production plant in Ghana to support local farmers.
President Mahama said Mr Shu’s commitment to Ghana had been demonstrated through his expanding investments in the country.
In a lighter moment, the President suggested that the businessman could merit a national honour in the future because of his investments in Ghana.
“If you haven’t got a national honour yet, I’m considering you for one in the future for your investment in Ghana,” President Mahama told him.
President Mahama subsequently performed the ceremonial sod-cutting for the Sentuo Airport Garden City Project and wished the company and its partners success in delivering the development.
