Philanthropist and Youth and Development Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Torgbui Tenuvi II, has selected 300 students who participated in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across public and private basic schools in the Ketu South Municipality to benefit from his educational support initiative.
The selection, according to him, was conducted across the municipality to ensure fairness and equitable representation. He congratulated the nearly 5,000 students who participated in the 2026 BECE and commended those who distinguished themselves with excellent results and raised the profile of Ketu South.
The 300 beneficiaries will receive student mattresses, trunks, chop boxes and other essential educational materials to support their transition from Junior High School to Senior High School. The beneficiaries will also receive support in both cash and kind.
The initiative represents a significant increase from the 50 students supported in 2025, reflecting what Torgbui Tenuvi II described as his continued commitment to expanding access to education and reducing the financial burden on families.
He said the intervention is intended to complement the government’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy by helping ensure that students who qualify for secondary education are not prevented from continuing their studies because of financial difficulties.
According to him, it is particularly painful when students perform well in examinations but are unable to proceed to Senior High School because their families cannot afford the basic items required for admission.
He therefore urged parents and guardians of the selected beneficiaries not to purchase the items covered under the initiative, saying the support is specifically intended to ease the financial pressure associated with the transition to SHS.
The philanthropist said the initiative is also designed to motivate students who will enter JHS 3 when schools reopen and encourage future BECE candidates to work hard and aspire to academic excellence.
In collaboration with the Ketu South Municipal Education Directorate, a special ceremony is expected to be held in September 2026 to formally celebrate and honour the 300 beneficiaries before they depart for their respective Senior High Schools.
Parents and guardians of the selected beneficiaries have been asked to submit their wards’ first-choice Senior High Schools to their respective school heads on or before the close of work on Tuesday, August 26, 2026.
Torgbui Tenuvi II said he will continue to monitor the academic progress of all beneficiaries to assess the impact of the intervention and ensure that the intended educational outcomes are achieved.
He further stated that, in his capacity as Youth and Development Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, he intends to complement the educational support programme with infrastructure development initiatives, while government continues to deploy resources towards national development.
He stressed that investment in human capital remains essential to building a literate, resilient and productive society capable of addressing contemporary challenges and creating better opportunities for future generations.
