President Akufo-Addo swears-in Deputy Special Prosecutor

President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday swore into office Jane Cynthia Naa Korshie Lamptey as Deputy Special Prosecutor.

This follows her successful vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

Congratulating her at a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo said “this is a very well deserved appointment. We already know of your abilities. You have risen already to the rank of Director of Public Prosecutions. We’ve all followed you, and many of us are delighted at your performance at the vetting”

He continued, “You demonstrated a very clear understanding of the requirements of your office. You are required above all to give maximum support to the special prosecutor, and give him all the co-operation that he needs for him to be able to discharge the functions of this office.”

Whilst acknowledging the enormity of the task ahead, President Akufo-Addo noted that the Special Prosecutor and his deputy “are the pioneers in this work but your vetting showed clearly that you have a very good understanding of what you are being called upon to do.”

Highlighting the damage that corruption has inflicted on the country, President Akufo-Addo noted that there is the need for Ghanaians, within the parameters of the rule of law, to find effective instruments to deal with it.

“This is the solution that this government and the people of Ghana have devised – to create this independent, non-partisan office that, without ill-will, fear or favour, will go ahead and examine and investigate, and, if necessary, prosecute public office holders for acts of corruption in our country,” he said.

On her part, Jane Cynthia Naa Korshie Lamptey expressed her gratitude for the confidence reposed in her, assuring the President and Ghanaians of her commitment to discharge her duties “diligently, without fear or favour.”
