A Kumasi Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded two persons into police custody for attempting to rob a forex bureau operator at Alabar in Kumasi.
Emmanuel Asare, unemployed and Kwaku Bawa, a driver were said to have attempted to rob Abdulai Adamu of an amount of GH¢22,000.00, at gun point at Aboaso in the Kwabre East district.
They pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and attempt to commit robbery and will reappear before the court presided over by Mr. John Ekow Mensah on May 18, this year.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Felix Akowuah, told the court that, the complainant works at a Forex Bureau at Alabar in Kumasi, but stays at Asokore-Mampong in the Asokore-Mampong Municipality.
He said on April 5 this year, at about 0930 hours, Bawa rang and lied to the complainant that he had US$5,000 on him, and that he should meet him at Aboaso to exchange some of the money into its cedi equivalent for him.
ASP Akowuah said the complainant accompanied by a witness went to Aboaso with GH¢22,000.00, the cedi equivalent of the said foreign currency.
On reaching there, the prosecution said the accused lured the complainant to the back of a building under the pretext of transacting with him.
The Prosecution said no sooner had they gone to the said place when Asare removed a locally-manufactured pistol, pointed it to the head of the complainant and ordered him to drop the money or be killed.
ASP Akowuah said Asare tried thrice to shoot the complainant, but failed in the process and at this stage, Bawa took to his heels.
He said the complainant mustered courage, took a stone and hit Asare on the chest with it but he managed to escape without succeeding in taking the money.
ASP Akowuah said the accused were arrested the following day after a complaint had been lodged with the police, and that both admitted to the offences in their caution statement.
