International relations, Security Expert and CEO for Irbard security Consult, Irbard Ibrahim has stated that a mutual respect between the police and the army could prevent future clashes.
In a press statement, Irbard Ibrahim further stated the need for these officials to work together since they are co-equal partners in keeping Ghana and the good people of Ghana safe. Neither is superior or inferior to the other.
He again stated that reports of clashes create an indelible dent on the international reputation of Ghana as one of the most secure and peaceful nations on the African continent.

MUTUAL RESPECT BETWEEN THE POLICE AND THE ARMY COULD PREVENT FUTURE CLASHES – Ibrahim Irbard
“I am deeply saddened by reports of clashes between soldiers and police officers in the Tamale area.
As someone who does retraining for personnel of the Army, Ghana Police Service, Prisons, BNI, National Security etc, my frequent interactions with these gallant men and women in uniform reveal an important need we should pay attention to.
Historical events like coup d’états, military regimes, and the roles soldiers played in them between 1966 and 1991 have created an aura of awe around soldiers, leading to a feeling of supremacy within Ghana’s security architecture. Don’t get me wrong, a good number of soldiers and senior officers are so down-to-earth and approachable. But we need to do more work on the sub-culture of intimidation that undergirds serving with the Ghana’s military.
I would courteously call for mutual respect between soldiers and the police, since they are CO-EQUAL partners in keeping Ghana and the good people of Ghana safe. Neither is superior or inferior to the other.
Top police and military officers may institute joint sessions, buffets, and other forms of police-soldier exchange programmes and interactions that will increase collaboration, integration and mutual respect among personnel at all levels.
Incessant reports of clashes create an indelible dent on the international reputation of Ghana as one of the most secure and peaceful nations on the African continent.
