2020: I can beat NPP – Spio

Presidential hopeful Ekow Spio-Garbrah, has said he has what it takes to unseat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 elections.

Even though the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is yet to open nominations for the position of a flag bearer, the former Minister of Trade and Industry believes he has what it takes to floor the Akufo-Addo government if given the nod by his party.

“I have the capacity to beat the NPP any day, anytime; if my party puts its confidence in me and I get the support of the party”, he told Moro Awudu on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Tuesday, 15 May 2018.

Mr Spio-Garbrah is hopeful that the Unity Walks of the party as well as the implementation of the Prof. Kwesi Botchwey report, which enumerated some recommendations for the party’s re-organisation for the 2020 general polls, will help position the NDC for victory.

The former CEO of the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation (CTO) is to contest the flag bearer slot against Professor Joshua Alabi, retired Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA); Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah.

Former President John Mahama has yet to declare whether or not he will run again.
