Global pop superstar Ariana Grande has reassured fans that her decision to step back from the spotlight was carefully planned and not influenced by recent public scrutiny over her appearance.
Speaking during a performance in Chicago, the 33-year-old singer addressed concerns from fans following the announcement that she would be taking a break from future public appearances.
According to Grande, the decision was made long before it was announced and stemmed from a place of self-awareness and strength.
“The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It is something that I had decided to plan a long time ago,” she told the audience, receiving loud cheers from fans.
Grande also dismissed suggestions that online negativity had prompted her to take the break.
“I heard that my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me, but that could not be more the opposite. Boundaries do need to be set. Human beings can need a break sometimes,” she said.
The singer expressed gratitude to her supporters, assuring them that their love remains stronger than any criticism.
“No matter what noises exist out there, nothing will ever be able to distort my reality or be louder than this love that we share. I love you,” she added.
Grande’s comments come amid renewed public discussion about her weight following the release of the music video for her latest single, “Petal.” The singer has previously spoken out against body shaming, urging people to stop commenting on others’ appearances regardless of their intentions.
Her representative also confirmed that Grandewill be stepping back from public visibility as she prioritises her personal well-being, while her Eternal Sunshine Tour is expected to conclude in London this September.
