President Akufo-Addo leaves for US

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo left Accra on Thursday for the United States of America (USA) to attend a high- level event to mark the achievement of the Qatar Foundation’s commitment to enrol 10 million children to receive quality primary school education.

He is attending the event in his capacity as the co-Chair of the Group of Advocates of Eminent Persons of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

His participation is at the invitation of the Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Her Highness Moza Bint Nasser, in partnership with the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

A press statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, and issued in Accra yesterday said as part of the activities of event, President Akufo-Addo would also be in Sacramento, California, where he would deliver the keynote address at the 27th Annual Africa Peace Awards and also launch the African Peace Fellows Programme at the California State University, Sacramento.

He was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, and some officials from the Presidency and the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

While the President was away, the statement said, the Vice-President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, would, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead.

President Akufo-Addo and the delegation will return home on Monday, April 30, 2018
