ACCRA, Ghana – Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem morning programme with Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra, the Member of Parliament for Tema East, Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, has called for renewed investment in Tema, stressing that the city remains one of Ghana’s most strategic economic hubs due to the operations of the Tema Port.
According to the MP, the port’s commercial and industrial activities make Tema an exceptional city and a major contributor to Ghana’s economy. However, he expressed concern that the city’s residential infrastructure and public amenities have not developed in line with the original master plan that envisioned Tema as Ghana’s premier planned city.
He noted that the time has come to restore Tema through improved roads, housing, drainage systems and other essential public infrastructure to match its economic significance.
Turning to the economy, Hon. Odamtten expressed confidence in President John Dramani Mahama’s economic management team, stating that the country’s recent economic stabilisation is only the first step towards sustainable growth.
He referenced the Finance Minister’s assertion that “Ghana is no longer in the ICU,” explaining that stabilisation was never the destination but the foundation upon which economic transformation would be built.
The Tema East legislator praised the government’s fiscal discipline, noting that despite revenue falling below projections, expenditure has been carefully managed within the approved 2026 budget. He highlighted that the Mid-Year Budget Review introduced neither new taxes nor requests for additional funding from Parliament, describing the move as evidence of prudent financial management.
Hon. Odamtten further indicated that government continues to prioritise social intervention programmes, including LEAP payments, the School Feeding Programme and the “No Fees Stress” policy for first-year university students, while simultaneously financing major infrastructure projects through internally generated resources.
He concluded that with the foundations of economic stability now in place, Ghanaians should begin to expect improvements in infrastructure, job creation, social services and overall national development.
