Six male students of Leklebi Senior High School in the Volta Region sustained minor injuries while attempting to put out a fire that engulfed the Housemaster’s apartment, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported.
The GNFS also said the male and female occupants of the apartment reportedly collapsed after learning about the fire.
According to the Service, the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Firefighters from the Hohoe Fire Station were dispatched to the school after receiving a distress call at about 4:21 p.m.
The firefighting team, led by the Hohoe Municipal Fire Commander, DO III Bismark Hosu-Porbley, arrived at the scene and found the Housemaster’s top-floor apartment completely engulfed in flames.
Firefighters immediately commenced suppression operations and successfully brought the blaze under control, restricting the fire to the affected apartment and preventing it from spreading to other parts of the school.
The GNFS said a total of eight affected persons received medical attention, were treated and subsequently discharged. No deaths were recorded.
The Service commended its personnel for their swift and professional response, while urging schools and other institutions to strengthen fire safety measures to protect lives and property.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are expected to continue.
