Great expectations at VGMA on Saturday

On Saturday, April 14, the Accra International Conference Centre will play host to yet another Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA), one of the prestigious events on the nation’s entertainment calendar.

This year’s show is the 19th edition of the music awards scheme and expectations are rather high for a smooth run of the event.

Some industry people and celebrities have expressed their expectations for the upcoming glamorous event as well as their favourite for the ultimate Artiste of the Year category.

First was Kwesi Ernest, CEO of Media Excel Productions who is looking forward to a night full of fun and excitement, “I am expecting a very exciting event on Saturday.

On his pick for the ultimate Artiste of the Year, Kwesi Ernest was emphatic that it is a straight fight between the late Ebony Reigns and Shatta Wale, “It looks like Ebony but Shatta Wale also stands a good chance, any of them could run away with the award,” he said.

On his part, YemmyBaba, a Celebrity Blogger/ Influencer expects nothing but a glamorous event, “I am expecting something glamorous, basically the awards has grown to the extent that we just have to appreciate it.”

“I am sure there will be lots of surprises on the night and I am looking forward to them, all of that adds to the excitement,” he said.

For YemmyBaba, the Artiste of the Year is between Shatta Wale and Ebony, “Ebony had lots of hit songs and deserves to be the Artiste of the Year while Shatta Wale also did well in the year under review but my vote goes to Ebony,” he concluded.

Host of Joy FM’s Drive Time, Lexis Bill will have nothing short of a smooth-run of the event, “I am looking forward to a well co-ordinated event, I am hoping we will have a smooth programme, technically enjoyable one.”

Lexis Bill’s Artiste of the Year is Ebony Reigns, “she worked hard in the year under review, she was fantastic, it will be a great way to honour her memory. She deserves it because she braved the odds, she was unique and an icon. It will be a great ending to a lovely story,” he said.

For actress and producer, Kafui Danku who has been a keen follower of the award scheme, she is looking forward to having fun. “I hope it starts on time, people are out to have fun and it won’t be a good thing to keep them waiting. I also hope there will be no technical hitches as has been experienced in the past.

“Last year’s performances were not on point except Efya so I am looking forward to good performances this year,” she said.

When asked who her Artiste of the Year is, Kafui settled for the Bhim Nation boss, Stonebwoy, “My choice is Stonebwoy, he deserves to win because he is the best among the rest.”

Showbiz contacted event organisers Charterhouse on their preparations and Head, Communications George Quaye said they are leaving no stone unturned to give Africa a good show.

“We have pulled together the best hands and resources to give Africa a good show, we’ve learnt from our errors in the past and put measures in place to ensure that all goes well, the rest is in God’s hands.

We can only pray for a great night,” he said.
