Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that the government will not seek parliamentary approval for supplementary estimates as part of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, saying the expenditure framework approved in the national budget remains unchanged.
Presenting the Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament on Thursday, July 24, Dr. Forson said the government had maintained fiscal discipline throughout the year and had, therefore, no reason to revise the 2026 appropriations.
According to him, the review is focused on providing Parliament and the public with an update on the country’s economic performance and the implementation of government policies, rather than seeking additional spending authority.
“Mr Speaker, I am not here to seek a supplementary estimate; the 2026 appropriations remain unchanged,” Dr. Forson told Parliament.
The Finance Minister’s announcement signals the government’s intention to maintain the spending framework approved at the beginning of the year as it continues with the implementation of the 2026 Budget.
The decision is also expected to draw attention to the government’s fiscal management, particularly at a time when stakeholders and economic observers are closely monitoring public expenditure, borrowing plans and the broader economic outlook for the remainder of 2026.
The Mid-Year Budget Review provides an opportunity for the government to assess economic developments and the progress of its policies while outlining its priorities for the rest of the financial year.
