The Somanya Magistrate Court has remanded James Yeboah, a 65-year-old retired field technician at New Senchi Health Centre (Disease Control Unit ) and Simon Tarkrama, 42 a Physician Assistant in charge New Senchi Health Centre.
The two accused persons were remanded on Tuesday to allow further investigation into the incident.
The Asuogyaman District Health Director, Abdul Aziz Abdulai on Friday, March 30, 2018 handed over the two to the Akosombo Police to assist in the investigation over the deadly injection which has so far claimed three(3)lives.
The Health Director had earlier lodged official complaint at the Akosombo Police Station about the medical incident having received a phone call on March 19, 2018 from the medical superintendent of VRA hospital Akosombo to the effect that three patients were admitted to the hospital after they received injection from New Senchi health centre but on March 25, 2018 one of the patients, Madam Eugenia Gakper died whilst two days later another patient, Alhaji Yobi Banda also passed on at Akuse hospital.
On March 28, 2018, Kwadwo Agyei Kyeremeh who was referred to Korle Bu hospital also died at the hospital.
Both suspects were re-arrested and cautioned. Police commenced investigations and went to the V.R.A Hospital- Akosombo, where Dr. Nartey a medical officer at the facility was met at post with a team of medical investigators from Regional Health Directorate – Koforidua.
Dr. Nartey told Police that, the Medical Superintendent at VRA was not around to give official report or statement on the matter but led police and the fact-finding health team to the hospital mortuary where the bodies of deceased Kwadwo Agyei Kyereme, 31, and Eugenia Gakper, 44 had been deposited.
According to the Public Relations officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, the Police is collaborating with the Ghana Health Service in investigating the incident.
The GHS has said the accused, James Yeboah who administered the injection operated illegally.
