A veteran broadcast journalist and managing editor of the insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt junior has expressed shocked to the fact that Honourable Members of Parliament would buttressed such an “extremely foolish” conduct by some military personnel who were involved in the burning to ashes and beyond recognition of about 14 excavators which were allegedly being used for sand winning activities at Kumbungu in the Northern region of Ghana.
The astute and enigmatic broadcaster and, prolific writer made the assertion when he appeared on the Alhaji- and – Alhaji Saturdays morning talk program aired on Radio Gold in Accra on 17/3/18.
When he took turns to address audience, Mr. Pratt expressed disappointment and ambiguity as to why; key figures in the august house (Parliament) would second such barbaric and nauseating conduct meted out by the soldiers in the region. He chides the embattled Members of Parliament for throwing their weight behind such a backward and uncivilized operation, and queried if they, members of Parliament should be killed if they failed to honour their pledge to their constituents.
Meanwhile, he also intimidated that, those heavy- duty equipments should have been ceased and kept or handed over to the various assemblies up North to serve the purpose of other extraneous activities which could have been beneficial to the state.
Corroborating similar discussions within the public domain when the issue took viral centre stage, the cracked writer, reiterated and didn’t minced words on a comment like “shoot to kill” which was uttered by the first deputy speaker, Hon Joseph Osei Owusu (MP, Bekwai) he fumed was most immaterial, preposterous and needless.
Infuriated by the development, he again stated that he cannot think of anything which is extremely foolish than that (he asserted).Mr. Pratt remarked and elucidated that “the shock of it is honourable members of Parliament using valuable time to support extreme foolishness” he retorted.
In a similar call, he described the position by the “shoot to kill MP( Joe Wise), as most unfortunate and he unequivocally questioned that ;
“If you see members of Parliament committing crime, must we shoot them?
“When we suspect that ministers are committing crime should we shoot them too”? He quizzed and exclaimed profusely!
The vociferous social commentator cum renowned and celebrated editor bemoaned and pondered; what is bedeviling our society in recent times. Since there are impunity everywhere, even amongst members of Parliament, he stressed.
He concluded by alluding to the fact that the act shows a clear disrespect to the tenets of the 1992 constitution, and shouldn’t be entertained under any jurisdiction pursuant to the sovereign provisions of the constitution of the republic of Ghana.
