Ghanaian musician Nero X known in real life as Joseph Nkrumah Boateng, has stated that contrary to many perceptions that he is a Gospel artist, he is actually a circular musician with many Highlife, Afrobeat and love songs.
My first major hit song was a Gospel song so many people thought that I was a gospel artist. Even till date that I have released other circular songs, the gospel tag still lingers in the mind and mouth of many Ghanaians; he said. He also added; I can sing, rap and even ragga but I choose to sing because that is my most comfort zone.
Nero X, speaking in an interview on the Ahotor Weekend Show with DJ USE on Ahotor 92.3 FM this past Saturday admitted that though he is a circular musician, he has absolutely no regret of the gospel tag since he describes it as his own music invention called ‘Gospop’ and most churches invite him to perform during church or Gospel events.
My first hit song ‘Osey’ made waves in Ghana because it was a nice song and also due to the fact that Ghanaians are largely religious with the Christian faith dominating. I capitalized on that hit to release ‘Nyame Dadaw’ ‘Nyimpa Nua’ which were also a mammoth hit in Ghana. He explained.
Nero X who is also a road safety icon for the Ghana Road Safety Commission, further expressed that he had released songs belonging to other genres of music even before releasing the gospel song but he was fortunate to have had the gospel track open his way to stardom. A reason he has refrained from singing any profane words in his music even when the music is not a gospel song.
When asked why he did not stick to doing only gospel music, Nero X said he is a gifted and versatile a musician thus expressing the talent God has given him in many ways. Just that he will make sure not to meddle in singing profane songs or mention profane words in my songs.
I have many songs but there are no profane words in it because I want even Pastors to listen to my music in their bedroom. I want Ghanaians to know that love songs can be composed without making mention of sexually explicit words. He noted.
Due to the serenity of his love and inspirational songs, Nero X urged that Ghanaians; both religious and non-religious should continue to enjoy his 2018 latest released single ‘Winner’ which is another inspirational hit he is currently promoting.
Nero X confessed that even though songs such as Osey, Nyame Dadaw, Yawa Dey, Nyimpa Nua, Hossana, Letter To Bae, Frema amongs others made hits in Ghana, he is yet to release his debut album tittled ‘The Grace Album’ thus Ghanaians and all his fans across the world should expect it later this year 2018.
