Ahotor FM celebrates Father’s Day with call for responsible parenting and unity

Media and Communications Consultant and Board Member of Ahotor FM and Universal Multimedia Company, Dr. Nana Sifa Twum, has called on fathers to take their parental responsibilities seriously and help raise children who will contribute positively to society and national development.

Speaking at a Father’s Day celebration organized by Ahotor FM and Radio One at Tinsel Town Hotel in Lashibi, Dr. Twum emphasized the need for fathers to play active roles in the upbringing, education, and moral development of their children.

He expressed appreciation to all fathers who attended the event, describing it as a prestigious and well-attended occasion, and noted that both Ahotor FM and Radio One remain committed to using the media as a platform to promote unity, education, and community development.

Dr. Twum acknowledged the Chairman of the occasion, veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr., the Imam of Lashibi Central Mosque, and other distinguished guests. He also conveyed greetings from the CEO of Universal Multimedia Company, Hon. Dr. Ofosu Ampofo, who serves as Political Advisor to the Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD.

According to him, the vision of Ahotor FM and Universal Multimedia Company is to use the media to foster unity and collaboration among communities. He noted that the days when people merely listened to radio without participating are gone, stressing that listeners must actively engage through calls, comments, and contributions that benefit society and their families.

Dr. Twum stated that fatherhood goes beyond simply giving birth to a child. He explained that a responsible father is one who takes keen interest in the welfare of his children, including their education, upbringing, and overall well-being.

He further emphasized that fathers have a duty to raise their children according to sound moral and spiritual values, teaching them to avoid criminal activities, greed, corruption, and other social vices. Such values, he said, are essential for producing responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Media and Communications Consultant expressed concern about societal challenges such as corruption and illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, arguing that many of these problems originate from failures in the home. He urged parents to instill discipline and integrity in their children from an early age.

To illustrate the pride that comes with responsible parenting, Dr. Twum cited Ghanaian footballer Caleb Yirenkyi, whose recent performance for Ghana in an international competition brought pride to his family. According to him, every parent takes joy in seeing their children excel and become respected members of society.

Dr. Twum also disclosed that during a special Father’s Day phone-in programme organized by Ahotor FM about three months ago, approximately 74 children called the station to congratulate their fathers and express appreciation for the love, care, and support they had received over the years. Many of the callers shared testimonies about the positive impact their fathers had made in their lives.

As part of the celebration, about 20 fathers were presented with special packages from Ahotor FM in recognition of their dedication and commitment to their families. Some women who accompanied their husbands to the event also praised Ahotor FM for the initiative and commended their spouses for being responsible and supportive partners and fathers.

During the occasion, a raffle draw was held for fathers. Three participants emerged as winners, with the ultimate prize being a special visit to Safari Valley Resort.

The Father’s Day celebration formed part of Ahotor FM and Radio One’s efforts to recognize and honour fathers whose sacrifices, guidance, and commitment continue to shape the lives of their children and contribute to the development of society.
