Family appeals for justice over killing of couple in Bawku West District

The family of a couple allegedly killed by unknown assailants in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region is calling on government and security agencies to intensify investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The victims, Mr. Robert Azubilla, 41, a gold buyer and businessman, and his wife, Mrs. Felicia Azubilla, 34, a seamstress and trader, were reportedly attacked at their residence in Kusanaba-Peri on the night of June 9, 2026.

According to family members, the assailants allegedly gained access to the couple’s room at about 11:00 p.m. before carrying out the attack. Mrs. Azubilla was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband was found alive and rushed to a nearby health facility.

Relatives said Mr. Azubilla’s condition deteriorated shortly after he was admitted, leading to his transfer to the district hospital where he later died. The couple was subsequently laid to rest after police completed preliminary investigations and released the bodies to the family for burial.

Speaking on Ahotor FM 92.3’s Adekye Mu Nsem programme with Nana Dogbe on Friday, June 19, 2026, a brother of the deceased expressed concern over what he described as the slow pace of investigations. He said the family has made several visits to the police but has only been informed that investigations are ongoing.

According to him, no arrests have been made since the incident occurred, leaving relatives frustrated and searching for answers. He appealed to the Minister for the Interior, the Inspector-General of Police, National Security, traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and the media to support efforts to ensure the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted.

The family says it remains hopeful that intensified investigations will provide justice for the deceased couple and bring closure to their loved ones.
