Suspended Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe has disclosed that a cabal within the party used a pro party militia to oust the constitutionally elected Chairman of the party, Paul Awentami Afoko and his General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong.
Mr Crabbe disclosed that he became a victim of circumstance when he drew the attention of the party to the illegality being perpetrated against the two.
“I asked them to follow the necessary processes in dealing with the two national executives but they refused and when I spoke against it, I was suspended from my position. I still remain a member of the party and have all rights to exercise as a member”, he disclosed.
A livid Sammy Crabbe who is bracing himself to contest as National Chairman of the party maintained that due processes were not followed in suspending Afoko and Kwabena due to machinations of some key personalities in the party he refused to name.
“They know themselves. I am not going to mention names”, he stated
According to him, he holds it a duty to uphold the constitution of the party and prevent some persons who for their parochial interest plotted a coup to remove national officers without recourse to what has been enshrined in it.
He specifically damned claims by Dr Amoako Tuffour that officers who have been suspended do not qualify to run for executive positions challenging him to point specifically where in the party constitution that can be found is.
The senior adviser to the President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Amoako Tuffour on a local radio station maintained the suspended officials of the party cannot contest for positions in the party.
“No suspended official of the party can vie for any position, just as the Acting General Secretary said earlier”, Mr. Tuffour stated last Wednesday.
But reacting to Dr. Amoako Tuffour’s comment, Mr Crabbe said they were unfortunate because the National Council which claims to possess the power to reinstate suspended officials is an inferior body to the Delegates Conference of the party according to its constitution.
“I disagree with my father Dr. Amoako Tuffour, he stated that National Council is the decision-making body but am sorry, it is the constitution which decides on all of us” Mr. Crabbe said.
He also alleged that some members of the party are saying what they want because nobody has challenged them.
The NPP suspended its 2nd Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe, alongside Mr. Agyapong in 2015, after they were accused of publicly rebelling against the party’s decision to indefinitely suspend its National Chairman, Paul Afoko.
