Popular Kumawood actor and football administrator Yaw Dabo has revealed that although acting brought him fame and recognition, it did not make him wealthy.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on UTV’s Atuu Show, the actor stated that the financial rewards from acting alone were not enough to make him rich despite his popularity in the movie industry.
According to Yaw Dabo, acting served as a platform that opened doors to greater opportunities. He explained that the fame he gained from the movie industry helped him secure endorsement deals, establish business connections, and invest in football, which have contributed significantly to his success.
“Acting made me popular, but it didn’t make me rich,” Dabo disclosed, stressing that many people have a misconception that actors earn huge sums of money simply because they are well-known.
The actor further noted that payments within the local movie industry are often low, making it difficult for many actors to build substantial wealth solely from acting.
Yaw Dabo’s comments have reignited conversations about the financial challenges facing Ghana’s movie industry and the need for better remuneration for actors and other industry players.
Despite the challenges, the actor remains grateful for the exposure acting has given him, describing it as the foundation that helped him expand into other successful ventures.
