The growing shortage of teachers in the Bia East District is becoming a major challenge, significantly affecting teaching and learning in several schools across the area.
One of the worst-hit schools is Akwabengkrom Junior High School (JHS), where the situation has compelled a single teacher to handle all subjects for students from JHS 1 to JHS 3.
The school’s only teacher, Mr. Isaac Kubo, described the situation as both difficult and worrying. According to him, he has been solely responsible for teaching every subject in the school for the past four months due to the absence of additional teachers.
Mr. Kubo explained that the overwhelming workload is negatively affecting effective teaching and learning, as managing multiple classes and subjects alone has become extremely challenging.
The situation at Akwabengkrom JHS reflects the broader teacher shortage crisis confronting many schools in the Bia East District, where inadequate staffing continues to place pressure on the few available teachers and affect the quality of education.
Residents and education stakeholders are therefore calling on the Ghana Education Service and the government to urgently intervene by posting more teachers to deprived communities within the district to improve academic activities and reduce the burden on existing staff.
