LGBTQ Bill Re-Laid in Parliament; Sanja Nanja Hopeful of Passage Before End of Sitting

The Member of Parliament for Atebubu-Amantin, Hon. Sanja Nanja, has disclosed that the LGBTQ Bill has been re-laid before Parliament and is expected to proceed through the second reading, consideration stage, and final vote for passage.

Speaking on Ahotor Adekyee Mu Nsem with Nana Dogde on Thursday, May 29, 2026, at Lashibi, Hon. Nanja explained that the bill had previously gone through all the necessary stages in Parliament under the previous administration but did not receive presidential assent.

According to him, he remains optimistic that the bill will be passed into law before the close of the current parliamentary sitting.

Hon. Nanja described the issue as a moral matter, stressing that the purpose of the bill is to prevent the public advocacy and promotion of LGBTQ activities.

“We do not know what people do in their rooms, but this bill seeks to prevent anyone from publicly advocating it,” he stated during the discussion, citing Ahotor FM as an example.

He further noted that many major religious groups and key stakeholders in the country do not support LGBTQ activities, insisting that the bill reflects the moral and cultural values held by many Ghanaians.

Hon. Nanja also expressed hope that Parliament would successfully pass the bill before the end of the current sitting.
