Social commentator Bongo Ideas has stirred reactions online after sharing an emotional post defending Ghana’s long-standing support for fellow African nations while questioning the reported treatment of Ghanaians living in South Africa.
In a viral post, Bongo Ideas highlighted popular Ghana-based singer Adina Thembi Ndamse, revealing that although many people perceive her as fully Ghanaian, she is actually of South African descent by birth.
According to him, Adina and her family have lived peacefully in Ghana for years and continue to enjoy love, acceptance, and support from Ghanaians without discrimination.
Using Adina as an example, he questioned why some South Africans allegedly attack, jail, or force out Ghanaians and other foreigners who choose to live and work in South Africa.
Bongo Ideas further reminded Africans of Ghana’s historic role in supporting liberation movements across the continent. He mentioned how Ghana accommodated former South African President Thabo Mbeki, supported Nelson Mandela during the anti-apartheid struggle, educated Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe, backed Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba, and made significant contributions to Africa’s independence movements.
According to him, Ghana has always promoted unity and brotherhood among Africans and would never mistreat fellow Africans because of nationality.
His comments have since sparked massive conversations on social media, with many users praising Ghana’s hospitality while others argued that xenophobic attacks should not be blamed on all South Africans.
The discussion once again brings attention to the growing concerns about xenophobia in parts of Africa and the need for stronger African unity beyond political speeches and slogans.
