Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo says President Akufo-Addo has turned himself into a walking contradiction after he assumed power.
According to him, the President is gleefully practicing the very things he preached against when he was in opposition especially regarding the appointment of family and friends to public office.
Critics of the President say his promise not to operate a “family and friends” government when voted into power has turned out to be one of the many fake campaign promises the New Patriotic Party used to hoodwink Ghanaians into choosing the party ahead of the National Democratic Congress in the 2016 general elections.
They allege that about seventy nine percent of persons serving in the Akufo-Addo led-government are either the President’s blood relation or cronies.
They’re quick to make a tall list of relatives and cronies the President has appointed to head what they describe as “critical” and “juicy” ministries department and agencies including Nana Asante Bediatuo, his Executive Secretary, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta; Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Kyea; Minister Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako Atta; Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo among others.
Many other relatives are said to have landed jobs in various state corporations and institutions, with some being appointed Chief Executives, Board Members or Chairmen. Ingrid Nana Adjoa Hackaman, wife of President Akufo-Addo’s nephew, Gabby Asare Otchere Darkoh, was only recently appointed board member for Ghana National Petroleum Corporation.
Speaking on Peace FM Wednesday, Mr Ofosu Ampofo who’s a former Minister for Local Government, slammed the President for not being principled saying he should be a man of his words.
“President Akufo Addo says one thing and does the opposite, he said he’ll not form a government of family and friends, but he’s done worse in the history of this country. He’s a walking contradiction. He’s not been able to live by his words and that is very bad.”
