Court remands trader over alleged robbery

A Kumasi Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded a trader accused of robbery into prison custody.

Kofi Owusu-Ansah, 26, had reportedly attacked and robbed his victims – twin brothers, at gunpoint.

He is facing charges of conspiracy and robbery and has pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Mrs. Lydia Osei Marfo, ordered him to make his next appearance on January 19.

His two accomplices are, however, on the run.

Police Inspector Eric Asare said the crime was committed on November 25, this year, at about 0200 hours, at Adehyeman in Kumasi.

The victims – Kenneth Kwadwo Konadu Senior and Kenneth Kwadwo Konadu Junior, were on their way to board a vehicle to Bampenase, when the accused and his fugitive colleagues attacked and seized their cash of GH¢ 6,200.00, US$ 300.00, iPhone, Nokia and Samsung phones together with a Ghanaian passport.

A formal report was made to the police and later in the day the pair spotted Owusu-Ansah and with the assistance of a police officer, arrested him.
