Four persons have been shot dead with eight others in critical condition when gunmen attacked Nanjon No 1 in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyon District in the Northern Region on Sunday evening.
The four deceased persons, according to the police, are all males.
According to the police, some unidentified gunmen on a motorbike arrived at the market centre of the town and started shooting indiscriminately, killing two people while 10 others sustained injuries.
The 10 injured persons, including two women, were rushed to the Bind Hospital.
According to the spokesperson of the Northern Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Mohammed Yussif Tanko, two of the injured persons passed on at the Bindi hospital, bringing the death toll to four.
He said a combined team of Police and military have been deployed to the area to maintain peace in the town.
Meanwhile, the police have started an investigation into the matter in order to bring the perpetrators to book.
