Appoint substantive rector for GIMPA — Alumni association
The Alumni Association of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has called for the appointment of a substantive rector for the institution.
It said the absence of a substantive rector affected the smooth running of the institution and that any continuous delay would worsen the situation.
Mr Tetteh, speaking on the sidelines of the congress of the association last Saturday, again expressed worry that GIMPA did not also have a substantive registrar.
He again asked the GIMPA Governing Council to appoint a substantive registrar for the institute.
Governing Council chairperson
Mr Tetteh said the executive members of the GIMPA Alumni Association had some reservations about the current situation in which the chairperson is not a former student of the institution.
He stated for instance that in other public universities, such as the University of Ghana, Legon, and the University of Cape Coast (UCC), it was only former students who assumed the position of chairman of the Governing Council of the university.
Mr Tetteh, therefore, said the executive members wanted GIMPA to subsequently appoint former students as chairmen of the Governing Council of the institute.
Achievements
The congress was to give accounts of the performance of the association for the past year and make amendments to the constitution of the association.
Mr Tetteh mentioned the putting up of an office for the association and securing membership on the Students’ Affairs Committee and the General Services Committee of GIMPA as some of the achievements of the association.
The proposals for the amendment of the constitution included the extension of the term of office of executive members from the current two years and a chance for a renewable of mandate to a fixed term of four years without extension.
