President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday, April 18, 2026, commenced a two-day working tour of the Northern Region as part of his government’s Resetting Ghana agenda, with a strong focus on infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and citizen engagement.
The tour, which spanned April 18-19, saw the President undertake a series of project inspections and sod-cutting ceremonies across Tamale and Bimbilla.
On Saturday, President Mahama travelled from Tamale to Bimbilla, where he performed a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 24-hour model market aimed at boosting local commerce and improving livelihoods.
He also inspected ongoing works on a 300-bed, three-storey girls’ dormitory at the Bimbilla E.P. College of Education, a project expected to enhance accommodation and learning conditions for students.
Later in the day, the President returned to Tamale to cut sod for another 24-hour model market at Kukuo.
He subsequently inspected progress on Phase One of the Tamale Third Ring Road, a key component of the government’s flagship “Big Push” infrastructure initiative.
Activities on Sunday, April 19, included inspections of major health and education projects in Tamale.
These comprised the construction of a CATLAB at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, a 12-unit classroom block and a 5,000-capacity auditorium at Ghana Senior High School, as well as ongoing works at the Tamale College of Education.
The President also inspected additional sections (Lots 2 and 3) of the Tamale Third Ring Road project.
The tour culminated in a Resetting Ghana Citizens’ Engagement town hall meeting at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Auditorium, where President Mahama interacted directly with residents and stakeholders on government policies and development priorities.
He later returned to Accra on Sunday after the engagement.
