Chief Executive Officer of Medeama SC, James Essilfie, has expressed strong belief that midfielder Salim Adams will break into the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite his recent omission.
The 23-year-old has been one of the standout performers for the Tarkwa-based side this season, playing a key role in Medeama’s push for the Ghana Premier League title. Adams has netted five goals in 21 league appearances, earning widespread praise for his consistency and influence in midfield.
His impressive form has sparked calls from sections of the Ghanaian football public for his inclusion in the national team, with many tipping him as a strong candidate for the global showpiece.
However, Adams was notably absent from Otto Addo’s latest squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Austria and Germany later this month. Despite the setback, Essilfie remains confident the midfielder’s time will come.
“I’m a bit surprised Salim Adams didn’t earn a call-up,” Essilfie said. “But I’m confident he will be included in the World Cup squad if he keeps working hard.”
Since joining Medeama at the start of the 2025/26 season, Adams has established himself as a central figure under head coach Ibrahim Tanko, impressing with his energy, creativity, and tactical awareness.
Adams is also no stranger to international football, having previously represented Ghana at the U23 level, where he earned two caps and scored once—an early indication of his potential on the international stage.
He first rose to prominence in 2021 following his move from New Edubiase United to Accra Hearts of Oak, where he gained valuable experience, including exposure to continental competitions. During his time with the Phobians, he also had a stint in the United States with FC Cincinnati 2, further broadening his development.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format. Ghana have secured one of Africa’s nine automatic qualification slots, marking their fifth appearance at the tournament.
The Black Stars’ best performance remains their historic quarterfinal run at the 2010 World Cup, and Medeama will be hopeful that Adams can play a part in writing a new chapter on football’s biggest stage.
