New Ghana national football team forward Prince Osei Owusu has expressed excitement ahead of Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Germany national football team later this month.
The German-born striker is expected to be included in Ghana’s squad for the high-profile encounter against the country of his birth, as well as another friendly against the Austria national football team, as the Black Stars step up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Owusu earned his first call-up to the Black Stars in November last year after completing his nationality switch and made his debut during the international window.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaSoccernet, the 29-year-old reflected on the emotional journey of representing Ghana.
“I made my debut last season and this year I was also in Ghana from December to New Year. I celebrated the New Year in Ghana with my family and it was a very special moment. I thank God for making my debut,” he said.
Having represented Germany at youth level earlier in his career, the forward admitted that facing his country of birth would be a particularly meaningful occasion.
“For me it will be a very special game,” Owusu said. “It will be a very big day for me, my family and my friends. But everything is in God’s hands. If I am invited, I will be very happy, and I will focus on delivering a big performance and helping the team.”
Owusu has been in impressive form for CF Montréal, scoring his first goal of the new Major League Soccer season during the club’s emphatic victory over the New York Red Bulls at the Sports Illustrated Stadium.
The goal also saw the striker reach another milestone, as he climbed into the top ten of Montréal’s all-time leading scorers in MLS history.
Before moving to North America, Owusu spent the majority of his professional career in Germany and previously featured for Toronto FC, continuing to build a reputation as a consistent attacking threat.
