Chief Fire Officer Calls for Public Respect and Support for Firefighters

The Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, has called on the public to show greater respect and cooperation toward fire officers while they are performing their duties.

According to her, fire officers play a critical role in protecting lives and property, often putting their own safety at risk in order to save others during emergencies such as fires, road accidents and other disasters.

Madam Sarpong emphasized that firefighters are highly dedicated professionals who work tirelessly, sometimes under very dangerous conditions, to ensure the safety of communities across the country.

She noted that the nature of their work requires discipline, commitment and courage, and therefore deserves the full support and respect of the public.

The Chief Fire Officer explained that in many emergency situations, cooperation from the public—such as giving way to fire tenders, avoiding interference at incident scenes and promptly reporting fire outbreaks—greatly improves the ability of fire officers to respond effectively.

She further appealed to motorists and bystanders to avoid obstructing fire engines during emergency responses and to allow officers to carry out their work without unnecessary distractions or confrontations.

Madam Sarpong also urged communities to strengthen fire prevention practices, including proper electrical installations, safe handling of flammable materials and regular fire safety education.

She reiterated that the Ghana National Fire Service remains committed to safeguarding lives and property but stressed that public cooperation and respect for fire officers are essential in ensuring successful emergency response operations across the country.
