Kim Lars Björkgren praises Black Queens for dominant 4-0 win over Hong Kong in Pink Ladies Cup opener

Kim Lars Björkgren, the head coach of Ghana’s women’s national football team, the Black Queens, has expressed high praise for his players following their impressive performance in the recent match against Hong Kong.

The Black Queens of Ghana produced a commanding and highly effective performance in their opening match of the 2026 Pink Ladies Cup, defeating Hong Kong by a score of 4-0 at the Al-Hamriya Sports Club Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on February 28, 2026.

This four-nation tournament, which runs from February 28 to March 6, provides valuable preparation for the team ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Ghana is also scheduled to play Russia and Tanzania during the group stage of this competition.

The game began at a measured pace for the Black Queens, but they steadily grew into the contest and took firm control. The first goal arrived in the 28th minute when Princess Marfo, the forward from FC Nordsjaelland, finished a smooth team move to break the deadlock.

Ten minutes later, Doris Boaduwaa took advantage of a mistake in the Hong Kong defense and calmly placed the ball past the goalkeeper to double the lead, giving Ghana a solid 2-0 advantage at halftime.

After the interval the Queens continued to dictate play and showed no drop in intensity. Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah extended the margin in the 55th minute with the third goal. Earlier in the half Doris Boaduwaa had earned a penalty, but the Hong Kong goalkeeper made a save to deny her from the spot.

The team refused to ease off, and in the closing stages Ajegipina Zakaria, making her senior international debut for Ampem Darkoa Ladies, scored a brilliant late goal to complete the 4-0 result and round off an encouraging team and individual performance.

Head coach Kim Lars Björkgren spoke positively after the match, describing the display as dominant and praising the players for their control of the game, their attacking purpose, and the way they carried out the plan.

He pointed out that the final score could have been higher still, noting that the Black Queens created a large number of good chances and showed clear quality in the attacking areas. His comments reflect contentment with the overall showing while also indicating belief that the team can become even more clinical in front of goal as the tournament continues.

The result marks an ideal beginning to the campaign for the Black Queens, who hold the number-three ranking in Africa and have recently moved up to 62nd place in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings.

It highlights the progress being made under Björkgren, who selected a 26-player squad that included several new additions and had earlier stated his intention to chase victories aggressively during this preparation period.

Ghana will now focus on recovery and readiness for the next match against Russia on March 3 at the same venue, with the aim of carrying forward this momentum through the international window.
