2026 World Cup: GFA Proposes $310,000 Honorarium for Black Stars Management Committee

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has proposed a $310,000 honorarium package for members of the Black Stars Management Committee as part of Ghana’s budget for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The amount forms part of the Association’s overall financial submission to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for the tournament.

The allocation follows significant restructuring within the team’s administrative setup. After Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the previous Management Committee, chaired by Mark Addo, was dissolved.

A new five-member committee was subsequently constituted ahead of the resumption of the World Cup qualifiers.

The reconstituted body is chaired by Dr Randy Abbey, with former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah serving as Vice Chairman in charge of Player Relations. Dr Richard Nsenkyire oversees Special Duties, while Moses Armah and Samuel Aboabire are responsible for operations.

Appearing before Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports on Thursday, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, confirmed that each of the five members is expected to receive $62,000, bringing the total honorarium to $310,000.

“There are honoraria for some other officials and officers, including the management team, for the team’s participation in the tournament. That amounts to $310,000,” he stated.

The proposed honorarium is separate from players’ bonuses and other operational expenses captured in the broader tournament budget.

“In all, the total budget requested by the Ghana Football Association for the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 World Cup amounts to $13,776,965,” Mr Adams added.

Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the Mundial in 2026, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022. The four-time African champions are hoping to improve on their recent performances after exiting at the group stage in their last two appearances.

As part of preparations, the GFA has confirmed that Bryant University in the United States will serve as the team’s base camp during the competition.

The Black Stars will be aiming for a stronger campaign as they seek to restore pride on football’s biggest stage.
