Developments in Sierra Leone are getting severely critical with the recent mudslide documented to have crippled economic activity with hundreds of victims feared dead and thousands more displaced.
The disaster, which struck on Monday, August 14, has for some reasons seen the Ghanaian media gone very silent on the call for help.
It is against this backdrop and more that former president, John Dramani Mahama issued a challenge to all political leaders in Africa to direct their focus on best ways of assisting the crying population of Sierra Leone rather than resorting to the extension of consolidatory messages.
In what has been described as a call to action, former president Mahama seem to have sounded disturbed over the slow rate of emergency response to the West African country. ‘’Our brothers & sisters in #SierraLeone need more than our prayers.
ECOWAS and sister countries must rise up to the challenge,’’ Mahama revealed. Meanwhile, government through the foreign affairs ministry has made known its intentions to send relief items to all surviving households of the disaster.
So far, military personnel have been deployed to help rescue those still trapped in the mud as Sierra Leone’s president has revealed the establishment of an emergency response centre has been established in Regent.
