A former Deputy Minister of Energy under the John Mahama led administration; John Jinapor has challenged the president’s statement concerning the enormous drain of Dumsor on the economy under the past NDC government.
According to John Jinapor, Nana Addo’s calculation that the effect of power outages cost the country about USD 3million dollars is totally incorrect.
The President on Monday announced at the National Policy Summit that the nation’s industrial sector encountered a massive fall-back as a result of the energy crisis that reigned under the past government.
“In 2015, manufacturing recorded negative growth of -2 per cent while mining recorded a negative growth of 0.38 per cent” Nana Addo lamented.
He emphatically stated that cumulatively the four years of the NDC government costs the nation more than USD 3 billion in losses while several others lost their jobs in the process.
However, the former Minister for Energy during the energy crisis, John Jinapor has falsified majority of the statements made by the president.
Mr. Jinapor said the president was wrong to allude that Dumsor was rife throughout the 4-year term of office of the NDC.
“The point is that when I was Deputy Minister, from 2013, 2014 by the end of 2015 we resolved the deficit. In the whole of the year 2016, we never had any load shedding programme, because we had enough capacity beyond our demand” he contested.
He was speaking to Ahotor FM’s Morning Show in a telephone interview with Emmanuel Quarshie (Hitman)
