IGP Announces Deployment of Robocop Units to Combat Matchday Hooliganism

Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohunu has revealed that specialised Robocop units will be deployed to help curb hooliganism and reinforce security at football matches across the country.

The announcement was made during a meeting with Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and his delegation at the Police Headquarters in Accra, where both institutions reviewed strategies aimed at improving matchday safety.

Yohunu explained that the introduction of enhanced security technology alongside the deployment of Robocop units would significantly strengthen crowd control, deter violent behaviour, and create a safer environment for players, officials, and supporters.

He emphasised that football matches demand strategic policing due to large crowds and heightened emotions, noting that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to maintaining order while ensuring fans can enjoy the game in peace.

The IGP also pledged closer collaboration with the Ghana Football Association to guarantee that competitions are conducted within a secure, disciplined, and professionally managed atmosphere nationwide.

The initiative forms part of broader joint efforts by the Police Service and the FA to clamp down on disorderly conduct and restore public confidence in stadium safety.
