Retired military officer and security analyst, Colonel Festus Aboagye, has broken his silence on the ongoing trial of former National Signal Bureau Coordinator, Kwabena Adu-Boahene. In a strongly worded statement, Colonel Aboagye challenged the manner in which sensitive issues surrounding the case are being handled and called for greater transparency and accountability.
Speaking in response to recent revelations made by Adu-Boahene, Colonel Aboagye dismissed allegations suggesting that members of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee had received money from the accused.
“A current member of the Defence and Interior Committee personally told me he never received any money from Adu-Boahene,” Colonel Aboagye stated firmly. “Even at the time Adu-Boahene is referring to, the Act in question had not yet been established.”
Colonel Aboagye questioned Adu-Boahene’s strategy of making broad claims without substantiating them with evidence.
“If Adu-Boahene has any evidence, he must present it to the court,” he asserted. “If the court deems it sensitive, it can be heard in camera. But he must not behave like Kwaku Ananse, weaving tales to exonerate himself while feeding the public with half-truths under the guise of national security.”
He expressed skepticism over the argument that discussing financial matters linked to the case could compromise national security.
“I don’t buy into that,” Colonel Aboagye said bluntly. “Let’s get to know what those monies were used for. Ghana will be safer if we face the truth rather than sweeping things under the carpet.”
Retired military officer and security analyst, Colonel Festus Aboagye added that invoking national security as a shield against accountability undermines public trust.
“If people are using national security as a cloak to avoid scrutiny, we are in more danger than we think,” he warned.
